Knopf in 1947, & then moved to Atheneum in 1959. In 1962, with the publication of Water Street, Ford brought Merrill over to Atheneum from Knopf, where Ford had published Merrill's first three trade books. Among the other writers whom Ford edited throughout his long career were Langston Hughes, Anthony Hecht, Philip Levine, W. S. Merwin, Howard Moss, Mark Strand, & Richard Wilbur. In 1986, PEN American Center awarded Ford its Publisher Citation. He was also the first recipient of the National Poetry Series Editor's Award. Fine copy.
